AUDITION
Thanks for your interest in auditioning for Vox Lumiere. Below please find all the information and materials needed for a successful audition. We’re tried to anticipate most queries, but… if you have any audition questions please give us a shout at: hello@kshpresents.com.
ABOUT VOX LUMIERE
Vox Lumiere (voices of light) is “rock concert meets silent film” – a mashup of musicians, singers and classic silent film that creates cool, immersive, cinematic concert events. The sound is an eclectic mix of original rock, pop and classic Hollywood film scoring for music geeks, film lovers, comic book and fantasy fans and… anyone who likes a little heavy metal served up with their classical music.
Vox Lumiere has seven productions ,and for more than 20 years has toured internationally, been featured on Celebrity Cruise Lines, seen on a Nationally Televised PBS Special in the US, won 14 awards and received excellent critical and audience reviews.
ABOUT THE MUSIC
The ensemble consists of 8 performers – drums, bass, guitar, violin, two male and two female singers. The music is synced perfectly to each film, and each show is like performing a live film scoring session.
Musicians perform to a pre-corded orchestral and choral backing track using a click track and in-ear monitors. Reading musical notation, while not a requirement, is certainly a plus. The scores are tricky, and include multiple key changes, time signatures and tempo changes, sometimes happening all at once (!). It’s fun, challenging and requires a high level of musicianship.
Vocalists do not perform with in-ear monitors and must be able to take their cues from the music (with a little help at times off from the drummer). In addition to pop, rock and legit classical solo passages, vocalists are required to enhance pre-recorded choral parts in a number of languages including English, French, German, Italian and (our personal favorite) Latin.
Rehearsals and performances are paid.
ABOUT AUDITIONS
Auditions will be via video submission.
To audition, please fill out the simple questionnaire here (LINK TO COME) and download the audition materials for your instrument or vocal type.
Why do we ask you to audition with our material? To save you time. Vox Lumiere’s music is tricky. It includes multiple key changes, time signatures and tempo changes, sometimes happening all at once! It’s fun, challenging and even after you send us your beautifully recorded, produced and mastered tracks, we are going to ask you to perform our material.
So… we want to save us all time and get to it.
We ask that you prepare a simple video submission of the three selections in your category. Please use the equipment you have at hand. You don’t need to do anything fancy to record a good audition video. Your smartphone, tablet, or computer will probably do just fine.
We are auditioning with materials from VOX LUMIERE – METROPOLIS. Here’s a link if you’re curious to see how the music works with the picture. (LINK TO COME)
Click here for tips and tricks for good (and easy) video auditions.
We don’t expect a studio quality recording. We just want to get an accurate sense of how you play or sing. Important – each piece of your audition video needs to be recorded in one take. For example, “1M02 Building – Jane Doe – Guitar” should be one file with one continuous take, then “1M14 Babel – Jane Doe – Guitar” should be one file with one continuous take. This can feel nerve-wracking, but remember—it’s no different than performing live!
Your submission should consist of three (3) separate videos, each with one take of one of the three required audition pieces.
UPLOADING SUBMISSIONS
When your submission is ready, please send them to us (for free) via WETRANSFER (https://wetransfer.com/) to hello@kshpresents.com. Please title your email VOX AUDITION – YOUR NAME – YOUR INSTRUMENT or VOCAL PART and include a message (optional) if there’s anything you’d like us to know.
That’s it. Thanks for your interest. We’re excited to hear from you!

AUDITION INFORMATION + MATERIALS
DRUMS
We are looking for someone that can lay down a solid foundation and “groove” in a variety of shifting meters and time signatures while sticking firmly to the click track. This gig is on electronic drums. Owning your own set electric drums is a plus, but not a deal breaker. We can arrange to provide a set if needed. The part covers just about every style imaginable – rock, pop, metal, dance, electronic, orchestral and more. And again, to be clear, this gig requires performing on an electric drum kit.

GUITAR
If you’re a rockstar that can play just about every guitar style imaginable, then we have got an amazing gig for you. Vox Lumiere guitar parts are fun, challenging and include crushing metal riffs, delicious lead lines, elegant orchestral accompaniment, pop song accompaniment and eccentric atonal craziness. Ability to improvise and shred pop/rock solos is a plus, but not required.

VIOLIN
Seeking a violinist with a beautiful tone, classical chops and rock/pop sensibilities. The part requires doubling prerecorded orchestral string sections, executing written solo pop and rock lines as well as a variety of intricate chamber music parts. Ability to improvise pop/rock solos is a plus, but not required.

** INSTRUMENTALISTS – PLEASE NOTE **
We do not use amps. All instruments – drums, bass, guitar and violin – are “in line” and controlled by the FOH mixer. Sound is monitored with in-ear monitors that you control individually through personal monitor mixers such as the MX-Q (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mx-q/id1471505954) that allow you to mix your own monitor mix.

TIPS FOR VIDEO AUDITIONS
Staging/Setup
- Framing:
- Either horizontal/landscape or vertical/portrait is fine.
- Make sure we can see you from at least from the torso up. Be careful not to cut your arms out of the frame, especially if they’re involved in your playing or singing.
- Try to place the camera at approximately mid-torso height so that it does not appear to be looking either up or down at you.
- Lighting:
- Place light sources in front of you and behind the camera. Avoid sources of light behind you.
- Sound:
- Make sure that microphones are not covered or pressed against another surface or material.
- Make sure your device is close enough to you to record sound at an acceptable level; 3-6 ft should suffice. If your device records audio in stereo, be sure that it is directed at the middle of the space where you will be performing.
- OPTIONAL – If you have a home recording set-up you – great! You can record yourself into your DAW at the same time you record your video and we will be able to hear you even better!
- Staging:
- Do your best to keep the area around and behind you clear of clutter.
- If you are reading from a music stand or tablet, do your best to keep it off to the side. It should be out of the direct line of sight of you and the camera, not in front of you. We want to see you 🙂!
